Once we figured out how to get out of town (the cue sheet directions were a little confusing), it was a beautiful morning!
We descended a steep hill into the fog.
We entered the rolling hills of southern Wisconsin. It was unbelievably beautiful, and none of these pictures can show it all.
We rode by this old, abandoned church. The sign on the front said, "Bethel Church, 1880."
More Wisconsin farmland:
By the time we got to the town of Richland Center, we were in the flatlands again. Tracy, Sam, and I stopped for a quick lunch/late breakfast, and as we were getting ready to get back on the road, I noticed flat tire #2 for me. I changed it, and we set out to finish our 110+ miles.
There was not much to see for the rest of the ride. We rode along Highway 14 again, and it was mostly semi-rural farmland, small towns, and some strip malls.
Nearing Madison, we rode the back roads, one of which was called Old Sauk Pass Road. Please remind me to never ride my bike on a road with the word "pass" in it! These were thigh-torturing, tachycardia-inducing hills! For the last 20 or so miles of the ride it was one hill after another as we rode into camp.
Here are Sam, Tracy, and I right after we reached camp. We did it!
Tonight, I'm staying in luxury in a motel room, thanks to great planning by Barb. I get a real bed, real towels, and real pillows!!
Tomorrow, we're on to Illinois!

You are actually experiencing one of the best vacations ever. The sights and your adventure is something that not many people will ever get to experience. Yes, it can be grueling and have its ups and downs, but what an experience.
Enjoy the comfort, relax, and sleep well...you deserve it.
Love,
