Today was our third century (or near century) in a row. It was also our 6th day of riding. I never thought I'd make it, but so far, so good. One more day for this longest week of riding.
The day started out cool and cloudy, which is perfect for me.
About 29 miles into the ride, I stopped at a nice little restaurant in Malta and had brunch (or second breakfast) with Ash and Pauline. After I got back on the road, we had to wait for this really long train to pass.
We rode through rural roads most of the day, and there are some really nice farmhouses in this part of Illinois. The houses are beautiful, and the yards are so well-maintained.
Today there was corn and more corn! Sometimes, that's all there was as far as the eye could see.
Pauline and Ash are riding past a few million stalks of corn.
Lunch with Patty and Sam was in the little town of Somonauk. Don't ask me how to pronounce that!
We're getting into the part of the country where things are "older." There are alot of old cemetaries, and they contain gravestones from the mid-1800s. I wish I had more time to look at them.
After riding along rural roads most of the day, we finally entered urban Illinois in the town of Morris, 60 or so miles from Chicago. It's quite a change to go from riding along quiet, almost car-less roads to riding along busy city streets. It's a little scary at times.
Leaving Morris we crossed a large bridge over the Illinois River.
Tonight we are camping at the Coal City Area Club. It's a pretty nice, private campground. There are RVs and there are our little tents.
Tomorrow, Indiana!
