Day 21!

Rapid City, SD to Kadoka, SD - 104.6 miles, 7:29

When I heard that we were going to ride 100+ miles through the Badlands of South Dakota, fear and dread ran through my head. "Oh no! It's going to be dry and hot and miserable!"

I was wrong. This was probably one of the most memorable rides I've done, so far, and I'm sure that when this Big Ride is done, I will look back on it as one of the best days of the trip.

One thing that made it so nice was the weather. It was fairly cool. By cool, I mean it was in the mid 80s. We've had 100+ degree days, so anything below 90 feels wonderful.

When you're in the middle of nowhere, big bales of hay can make convenient rest stops, and that's all I'll say about that.
The Cheyenne River. Those "spots" are birds.

What? Dinosaurs in South Dakota?

South Dakota Longhorns!
As beautiful as the morning was, the Badlands were spectacular. I have seen the Badlands from a distance, from inside a car, but to ride my bike through that area was amazing. I took so many pictures, but I know that none of them can do it justice. You need to see it in person to see how beautiful it really is.

Sam riding up the road to Cedar Pass.
Tracy, me, Rosie, and Sam.
Another amazing attraction of the Badlands region: The World's Largest Prairie Dog.
Welcome to Kadoka, SD, our home for the evening. We camped in the city park.

You deserved a great day! Those are the kind of days that will get your adreneline flowing again. Hope the prairie dogs don't follow you to D.C. They are probably big enough to ride.............ohh, not a bad idea!
